2022 Pakistan Super League (also known as PSL 7, or for sponsorship reasons, HBL PSL 2022) is the seventh season of the Pakistan Super League, a franchise Twenty20 cricket league which was established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2015. The league began on 27 January 2022, with the final scheduled to take place on 27 February.[1]

On 24 July 2021, PCB announced that the seventh season of PSL will be held in January and February 2022 with all matches taking place in Pakistan.[2][3] The National Stadium, Karachi, will host 15 matches, while the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, will host 19 matches including the playoffs. HBL Pakistan retained the title sponsorship of the PSL, and the broadcast partners will be PTV Sports and A Sports, while Daraz will be the livestreaming partner.

COVID-19 protocols

On 5 January, it was reported that all matches will be played as per schedule under strict standard operating procedures, though the officials were worried about a surge in SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant,[14] as the league could neither be shifted to UAE due to the Emirates Cricket Board also set to hold its own T20 league in February and March 2022,[15] nor be postponed due to packed international schedule of Pakistan cricket team.[16]

Therefore, a pool of about 25 local players will be reserved in isolation; if more than 8 players out of 22 from any team test positive COVID-19, then these can be used in replacement. If the whole league gets struck then it will only be postponed for seven days, after which the remaining matches will be played as double-headers. If it happens in later matches then the winner will instead be announced on playing conditions.[17][18][19]

The PCB will regulate three distinct bubbles with different protocols. The main bubble will have all the teams, staff, and officials. Each franchise will not be allowed to meet within the hotel premises. The two other bubbles will be at separate hotel, comprising production crew and ground staff respectively. The bubbles will also be not allowed to interact, and every individual should follow health and safety guidelines. Any violation may result in fines or expulsion from the league.[20][21]
