A fault in the internet submarine cable on Tuesday affected the broadband speed in Pakistan.
According to sources within the telecom industry, the South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 4 (SEA-ME-WE 4) was “cut”, causing the speed to drop.
The sources said that the fault in the submarine cable will create problems for users at peak hours.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) has begun trying to shift internet traffic to other cables.
Sources added that the repair work on SEA-ME-WE 4 will be completed in January 2022.
The SEA-ME-WE 4 is an optical fibre submarine communications cable system that carries telecommunications between Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Egypt, Italy, Tunisia, Algeria and France.
Meanwhile, PTCL issued a statement saying that arrangements had been made for “alternate bandwidth”.
“In the next few days, additional bandwidth will be added,” the statement said.
In this period, internet speeds will be “slightly affected”, the statement warned users.
