The coin commemorates the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak
On the occasion of the 550th birthday of the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak, Pakistan has commemorated this event with a special Rs 50 coin. The currency also celebrates the the milestone of the Kartarpur Corridor, which is going to make religious tourism easier for Sikhs from India to Pakistan.
The Kartarpur Corridor is a rare success story when it comes to Pak-India relations. The two neghoring countries are undergoing tensions currently, however, the Kartarpur project is still on track to be completed successfully.
Tourists will also be able to buy postage stamps with an image of the Gurdwara Janam Asthan for Rs 8.
When will Kartarpur Corridor open?
Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the Kartarpur Corridor on November 9 2019. Soon after, Sikh tourists from India and Pakistan will be able to travel to religious sites from both sides of the border.
The Corridor will provide free visa link between Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur and Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India, making it an attractive option for SIkh tourists.
How can I buy the Rs 50 coin?
Currently, only the Sikh tourists traveling to the Pakistani side of the Kartarpur Corridor will be able to buy it when it opens on Nov 9.
