If you’re out and about and don’t have a SIM card for whatever country you’re in, OnePlus may have a solution for you.
They’ve launched a new service called OnePlus Roaming, which lets you use data wherever you are around the world. It’s limited to data only, you won’t be able to make calls.
It should work in “most countries” but availability hasn’t been confirmed yet, and we don’t have a list of countries for now.
Using This Service
OnePlus added this service with OxygenOS Open Beta 7. You can access it by going into Settings -> Wi-Fi & Internet -> OnePlus Roaming.
From there you have to buy a package for the region you’re in. As mentioned earlier, OnePlus hasn’t released a full list of countries where OnePlus Roaming works, so we don’t know if Pakistan is supported or not.
It’s only limited to data, so you won’t get voice calls. However, that can be remedied by using WhatsApp or a similar IM app that lets you call over data. The setup is also pretty simple, just buy the package and start using data then and there.
Only on OnePlus 6
Note that this is only available in OxygenOS Beta 7 on the OnePlus 6. The beta should arrive on the OnePlus 6T in the next few weeks. We still don’t know whether OnePlus 3/3T and OnePlus 5/5T will get the feature.
Other than OnePlus Roaming, the beta update adds a Video Enhancer, which configures colors for an improved viewing experience. There are also other smaller features like app drawer configuration, letting you choose a preferred SIM card for contacts and groups, and vibrating when a call ends.
How to Get The Beta
To get OxygenOS beta, you’ll need to flash a separate ROM. Refer to this page for instructions on how to flash the ROM. If you already have a beta ROM flashed on your OnePlus phone, all you need to do is check for a system update from Settings.
