Govt Considers Restoring Train and Inter-Provincial Transport Services

After easing restrictions on businesses, the federal government is mulling to resume train service and inter-provincial transport. The suggestion was tabled during the meeting of the federal cabinet held on Tuesday.

According to reports, federal cabinet members have agreed to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s suggestion to allow transport services to resume countrywide.

During the meeting, PM Khan said that the federal government will consult with experts and all provincial governments before taking any decision regarding the resumption of transport services.

PM Khan has also urged citizens to adhere to all the SOPs issued by the government and undertake precautionary measures as the Coronavirus threat hasn’t abated completely.

Last month, the Railways Ministry had also hinted towards restoring train operations partially across Pakistan. Train and inter-provincial transport services were banned in March after the government imposed a lockdown to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the country.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Information and Broadcasting, Asim Saleem Bajwa, has sought financial assistance from the federal government to launch an advertising campaign to raise awareness among the public regarding Coronavirus.

Bajwa lamented that the government has distributed billions of rupees among the underprivileged without advertising it. He recommended PM Khan to advertise welfare activities as it would encourage people to help the needy in times like these.
