The Islamabad High Court has ruled that writing “Advocate” on vehicle number plates is illegal. Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri made this announcement while addressing a gathering of lawyers at a certificate distribution ceremony.
He emphasized that no one is above the law, and lawyers must follow the legal regulations just like any other citizen. Displaying “Advocate” on number plates gives a false impression of special privileges, which is not allowed under the law.
Justice Jahangiri reminded the legal community that laws apply equally to everyone. He urged lawyers to remove any such markings from their vehicles and avoid misusing their profession for personal benefits.
The court has made it clear that strict action can be taken against those who violate this rule. Lawyers have been advised to use standard government-issued number plates and follow traffic regulations like every other motorist.
