Pakistan Post to Go Digital Under Newly Approved Rs. 6 Billion Automation Project

Pakistan Post is set for a major digital overhaul as the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved the “Automation of Post Office” project aimed at modernizing postal services nationwide.
The initiative, costing Rs. 6.644 billion and financed through the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KExim), will digitize 2,761 post offices across the country, upgrade financial services, and streamline end-to-end postal operations.
The project is designed to help Pakistan Post recover from years of declining revenue. According to officials, the organization has suffered a 65% loss in revenue to competitors who adopted modern digital systems much earlier. The new automation plan seeks to bridge this gap by introducing updated technology, improving service delivery, and strengthening Pakistan Post’s role in the country’s financial and communications network.

The approval came as the CDWP cleared a total of seven development projects worth Rs. 34.66 billion during its meeting on Saturday. In addition, two major projects costing Rs. 44.62 billion were forwarded to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) for final approval.

The approved development initiatives cover key sectors including education, governance, health, higher education, information technology, housing, power, transport, and water resources. Among these is the establishment of a Danish School in Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.319 billion, aimed at improving access to quality education in the region.
