At the United Nations, Pakistan has once again called for granting the Kashmiris their right to self determination under the relevant UN resolutions.

The call has made by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Maleeha Lodhi whilst speaking in a round table discussion in New York.

The debate has organized to highlight the issues involving the plight of the people of territories that continue to languish under colonialism.

Maleeha Lodhi emphasized that the world body needs to implement its decisions with a political will and universal application. Otherwise, she warned that it would only erode the confidence of the international community, undermine the credibility of the UN system and encourage a culture of impunity.

Maleeha Lodhi said the right of self-determination of the people of Kashmir has been recognized and promised by the UN Security Council and by both India and Pakistan. She said unfortunately Kashmiris are still waiting for the world body to fulfill its promise of a supervised plebiscite in the held territory.

The Pakistani envoy said that India has deployed hundreds of thousands of troops to suppress the legitimate freedom struggle of Kashmir people, unleashing violence and cruelty documented by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights
